I probably should have posted this post before the last one, because many people still don't know what blogs are or how they can be used to market your business.
As a business owner myself, I am always looking for effective, inexpensive ways to market my business. When I discovered blogging, I was ready to jump on board!
So, what is a blog? The word "blog" is a shortened form of the term "web log". In the past, people referred to blogs as "online diaries," but since blogs have become marketing tools for many business owners, that term doesn't apply to the kind of blogging we small business owners do.
According to Andy Wibbels' book Blogwild! A Guide For Small Business Blogging,
"A blog is an easily, instantly, and frequently updated Web site, focused around a topic, industry or personality."
How can a blog help promote your company?
- They offer frequently updated content, sometimes daily or at the very least once a week.
- They let you show a more personable, informal side of yourself (contrasting with the formality of your website). Potential customers can read your posts and get a feel for who you are as a person. The more comfortable they feel with you, the more inclined they will be to buy your product.:-)
- They provide information that your potential customers find valuable. Much of the information blogs provide include links to other blogs and websites.
What you are reading right now is a blog. I write articles (or posts) and publish them 3 times a week. I write on topics that would be of interest to small business owners and entrepreneurs. I also have a website, but my blog allows me to speak in a more personal voice. It also allows me to keep in steady contact with my target audience in a very friendly, helpful, non-invasive way. It's as simple as that. You could do it too!
