You can take university level classes from home, on your own time, at your own speed, at your convenience, for absolutely free. How's that for a good deal?
The perpetual student in me was dancing for joy when I read about this opportunity. I am all over this!
Here's the deal:
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has a program called OpenCourseWare where educators, students and self-learners from around the world have the opportunity to take classes at MIT for free!
Of course this is completely virtual--but we online entrepreneurs are used to taking classes virtually, so that's no big deal.
You get all the class notes, quizzes, exams, discussion groups and some audio/video of the lectures for over 1400 classes they offer--at no cost. I can't get over that!
Classes are available on the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Some of the departments I'm looking at are Anthropology, Foreign Languages & Literature, History, and Women's Studies. It's MIT, so they also have the science/techie departments. Under each department there are tons of classes to choose from, all at different levels.
This is learning simply for the sake of expanding your knowledge and increasing your competance.
Since it's free, you don't get any direct teacher interaction, and there are no grades. You also don't get credits for taking these courses, so it's not like you could get your Master's degree in something.
But, you could work towards having the knowledge that someone with a Master's degree has.
For those of us who love to learn just for the sake of learning, it's exciting to be able to be a fly on the wall of these university classes.
There are 3 other universities in the US that are also offering OpenCourseWare:
Johns Hopkins University School Of Public Health
Tufts University
Utah State University
