I recently downloaded Google Desktop, and I'm loving it! (You can find it here.) It's a free download that allows you to search your computer for emails, web history and files all from a little search box that appears on the task bar of your computer. You can also search your computer by doing an ordinary Google web search. Your personal desktop results appear at the top of the search results.
By far, my favorite part of Google desktop is the gadgets that appear in a sidebar of your desktop. Google gives you dozens of "gadgets" to choose from, from soduko puzzles, to dictionary search boxes, to customized news feeds, to fun things Pac Man and your daily horoscope.
Here are the gadgets I chose:
The "To-Do List" gadget: I have my "To-Do" list always within view at the right hand side of my screen. There's a checkbox beside each item, and when I finish it, I just check it off and it greys that item out and moves it to the bottom of my list.
The "Scratch Pad" gadget: If I need to take a quick note, I just type it in the "Scratch Pad" that's in my sidebar, and it's automatically saved for me. No need to open up Word or take out a post-it note.
The "Google Calendar" gadget: I have a miniature version of my Google calendar displayed on my sidebar. If I want to add, view or share an event, I can just access it right from my ever-present sidebar. I can also see a little list of my agenda items for that day, and a little pop-up reminder comes up when my next appointment is coming up. Extremely helpful!
There was also a Calvin and Hobbes gadget I wanted to try and a "Quote of the Day" gadget. So many to choose from.
So cool!

Great post! I've got to see how this works. It seems like this could really revolutionize my world.
