Despite the sucker punch Pluto has taken from the world's leading astronomers, it looks like the little ex-planet is rallying in the arenas of public approval and e-commerce.
When the news hit that Pluto had been demoted from a full-fledged planet to a mere dwarf planet, earthlings showed their support by lining up to buy Pluto-inspired t-shirts, bumper stickers and memorabilia.
According to azcentral.com,
"T-shirts and bumper stickers with such sayings as "I miss Pluto," "Pluto is a planet!" "Pluto was framed!" "Keep the 9th planet a planet" and "Save Pluto, Take Uranus" are being offered for sale online...And while it may be a painful reminder of its new status in the solar system, you also can find a Pluto paperweight on eBay for $80."
So, I'm a little consoled that Pluto is getting its 15 minutes of fame and possibly a permanent place in pop culture history.
And it's helping some earthlings make some cash. Sounds like a win-win situation :-).
I'm trying to limit myself on my Seth Godin references, because eSoup is starting to feel like "The Other Seth Godin Blog", but I gotta point out that he also has some great ideas for cashing in on Pluto's fall from planetary grace. See Seth's post: Why Care About Pluto?
