On most days the TypePad gods are friendly and allow the comments that we place on TypePad blogs to pass unmolested through their gates.
At other times, though, the demon hounds that guard the TypePad fortress are ravenous and end up gobbling up some of the comments submitted to TypePad blogs.
I'm well aware of the saga of Gavin's battles with these ferocious demons :-), and it is frustrating to commenters and bloggers alike that the comments sometimes just don't come through.
If you are kind enough to leave a comment at eSoup and your comment does not appear, please know that I'm not tyrannically screening and deleting the comments ;-)--they just aren't making it to me. I'm going to contact TypePad to see what can be done, but in the meantime, please continue to place comments, and if it doesn't come through please email me to let me know.
I think that most of the time the comments go through, but I'm really not sure how many are placed that don't. I know of two people who placed comments within the past week who had their comments eaten, but others seem to have come through fine.
Poor Gavin says he has been blackballed entirely from leaving comments on TypePad blogs, and has also been having probs receiving comments on his own blog (I got lucky--my comments on Servant Of Chaos went through fine today).
While TypePad may be having their problems, I don't think this comment-eating thing is unique to them. It's happened to me sometimes that comments that I leave on Blogger and WordPress blogs don't show up either. It' just a given that sometimes technical glitches occur.
I just wanted to let you know that all comments are appreciated and none are being deleted by me. If you submit a comment and if the TypePad demons let it through, then it will show up on eSoup.
Thanks for you patience! Keep placing your comments and don't get scared of the hungry hounds! They're really quite cute and tame once you get to know them. ;-)

I wonder if my comment will make it through the demon eating comment zone.
:)

Sharon,
I just experienced the same kind of problem with Typepad and think there is a way around (until they fix it for good). Would you try it and tell me if it works for you as well? Start by a reset of your browser history, cookies and cache, then :
1. Type your comment as you would do when things are fine.
2. Check (ok) the "Remember personal info" box.
3. Once you are done, don't click "Preview" or "Post" right away.
4. Copy the content of your comments area.
5. Close the page you were on in your browser.
- Now the next steps are just a matter of timing : the faster, the more chance to succeed. Key = SPEED -
6. Re-open the page you were on (via history in your browser), as soon as it is loaded, paste your comment you copied.
7. Click "Post" (fast, fast!)
8. Fill the security check pattern.
9. Keep you fingers crossed.
Works now when I do it. Could be luck... but I'd love to hear from other testers. ; )

Luc is very tricky! Haven't tried it yet ... but commenting works from me from other places other than home!

Oh Luc--you are so smart! I'm going to start doing that, and I'll let you know if it works!
It's funny that we have to have a strategy for leaving comments "quick, quick, quick"!
Do you know what else is funny? When I can't pass for human when they tell me to type in the letters in the image for the verification.
I'm like, "I'm typing in the letters exactly as I see them! How are you telling me you don't think I'm human!"
Ha--it is too funny! :-)
