I've begun setting a timer for my household chores and desk work - the boring stuff. It keeps me on track and breaks everything down into bite-sized chunks. It's amazing what can be done in ten minutes.

Hey Deirdre,

Oh, it works wonders for stuff like household chores. When I need to clean the house, I put my iPod on and set it to use it as a timer. If I have 10 min or 15 min, I set the iPod to automatically turn off at the end of that time. It's like playing musical chairs--you want to get as much done as you can before the music stops.

If anyone wants to use their iPod as a motivational timer, here's the HowTo:

Hi Sharon,

I admire your post, as you also mention this is your favorite. You've mention about 4-hour workday, I just wonder if you happen to know "The 4-Hour Work Week"?

Anyways, keep posting about productivity!

Thanks and more power to your blog!

So far, I haven't written or linked to Tim's book because it sounds a bit fishy to me :-), and I have a good idea about how he's able to get by "working" less than 4 hours a week. It involves living in inexpensive countries and outsourcing work to overseas contractors who work extremely cheaply. IMO, it doesn't sound like a good way for someone to build a stable long term business.

Working 4 hours a day is feasible, but working 4 hours a *week* and getting "rich" is kind of sketchy to me. :-) However, I have not doubt that his book will be a huge success because there's no shortage of folks who want to not work and get rich! For those of us trying to build real businesses on solid foundations tho, if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. :-)

I am in the early stages of developing better efficiency. I have suffered from procrastination & perfectionism. Nice read, thanks.
