No Mere Mortals

One ordinary looking, mild mannered man who worked in an everyday boring job finally garners the confidence to come out of his everyday quiet life to show his gift. First, everyone looks at him like, "Please, do I have to endure this boring man's attempts at singing?".

He doubts if he is good enough. He has serious issues with confidence. He is used to people making fun of him for being different. But one day he finally gets up the courage to be himself and to risk the mockery of a panel of judges and a live audience.

This is what happened on that day:

It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you may talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship…It is in light of these overwhelming possibilities that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never met a mere mortal.

C.S. Lewis, “The Weight of Glory”

Great quote, C S Lewis was definitely a man ahead of his time, as well as of his time. The sentiment holds as true today as it did then! Great post

Hi Helen,

Yes, I love C.S. Lewis and that quote reminds me that mingled in with the natural is the supernatural, that within each person is a hero just waiting to emerge.

Thanks so much for chiming in :-)
